Ideas that tell us what they wish.

Practicing mindfulness of thoughts can be tricky, because they so easily pull us in. Here are some beautiful phrases from a guided meditation on awareness of thoughts from the GetActive site (a program for helping with chronic pain):


“Try to simply observe the thoughts with a gentle curiosity. You do not have to control them, analyze them, argue with them, or get into the story that the thoughts are telling…Try to see them as transient mental events, not necessarily having any inherent truth to them, but rather as ideas that tell us what they wish before vanishing and being replaced by new thoughts.”


That last line is just so spot on…
